Chinese electronics manufacturer Xiaomi announced the arrival of the Xiaomi 14 series in India on March 7th 2024. This flagship draws parallels with its Chinese counterpart which was revealed during Xiaomi’s “Leap Beyond the Moment” launch event in China during October 2023. Xiaomi unveiled the Xiaomi 14 and the Xiaomi 14 Ultra along with many other gadgets during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona on February 25.
The main highlight in the Xiaomi 14 series is the engineering collaboration between camera and optics manufacturer Leica and Xiaomi to feature Leica’s Summilux optical lenses. The bigger versions of the same could also be seen on Panasonic’s Lumix cameras.
The Xiaomi 14 and 14 pro are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC chipset and comes with the new HyperOS user interface. For the Indian market, both Amazon and Flipkart have emerged as potential avenues to procure the Xiaomi 14, as the ecommerce giants have dedicated microsites for the device ahead of its launch.
Xiaomi 14 specifications
The vanilla Xiaomi 14 features a 6.36 inches 460ppi OLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz and peak brightness of 3,000 nits. The phone also features Dolby’s Vision HDR support for lifelike clarity. To highlight it’s photographic capabilities, the Xiaomi 14 features the Light Fusion 900 image sensor, for professional-grade imaging and reaching exceptional high dynamic range capabilities according to Xiaomi.
As for the Xiaomi and Leica collaboration, the Xiaomi 14 is adorned with a 50 Megapixel double camera setup comprising of one ultra-wide angle lens and a 75mm Leica telephoto lens. The cameras are engineered with Leica’s Summilux optical lenses that are also used on Panasonic’s Lumix cameras. It can shoot with an aperture of f/1.6 .
In terms of performance, the Xiaomi 14 is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC chipset coupled with a 4610mAh battery. It features a quad-mic setup, stereo Dolby Atmos speakers, and a blazing-fast USB 3.2 Gen1 5Gbps port, and comes with a 90W wired HyperCharge and 50W wireless HyperCharge support. The smooth and fluidic HyperOS skin comes with the latest Android 14 update.
The Xiaomi 14 series will be launched in four colors namely, Snow Mountain Pink, Jade Green, Black, and White.
Xiaomi 14 Pro specifications
As for the Xiaomi 14 Pro, it was not showcased at the WMC 2024 but is amongst the 14 series. It features an expansive 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED display, boasting a WQHD+ resolution with a pixel density of 522ppi coupled with a screen refresh rate of 120Hz. The device achieves peak brightness of 3000 nits while fully supporting the immersive Dolby Vision HDR.
When it comes to its camera capabilities, the Xiaomi 14 Pro boasts a sophisticated triple-camera arrangement at the rear, similar to the Xiaomi 14. This setup comprises a powerful 50-megapixel primary camera, accompanied by a 50-megapixel ultra wide-angle Leica Summilux lens and a 50-megapixel 75mm Leica telephoto lens. On the front, it houses a single 32-megapixel sensor dedicated for crystal clear selfies.
Regarding its performance, the 14 Pro boasts Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC chipset paired with a robust 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM. It also features a larger 4880mAh battery than the latter. Running on the new HyperOS user interface built on the latest Android 14, it offers a 256GB of built-in storage just like the Xiaomi 14.
Xiaomi 14 Ultra Specifications
The Xiaomi 14 Ultra, in contrast, boasts an expansive 6.73-inch QHD+ LTPO OLED screen, flaunting a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate. With a resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels, it delivers stunning visuals enhanced by Dolby Vision and HDR10+ technologies. What’s more is its fluidic 240Hz touch sampling rate with the same peak brightness of 3000 nits.
In terms of camera finesse, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra features a quad-camera setup that includes one 50 Megapixel (f/1.63) primary camera, accompanied by three additional 50-megapixel lenses offering versatile aperture options of f/1.8, f/2.5, and another f/1.8. On the front, a single-camera setup awaits, delivering crisp and detailed selfies with its 32-megapixel sensor unlike the afore mentioned models.
From a wide 12mm angle to a remarkable 120mm focal length, the main camera features seamless exposure adjustments across diverse scenarios. Complementing this prowess are the Leica 75mm floating telephoto lens, Leica 120mm periscope lens, and Leica 12mm ultra-wide lens, collectively powering the 14 Ultra.
The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is the largest in its lineup with a formidable 5300mAh battery. It features a 16GB+512GB storage setup. It supports fast charging capabilities with 90W wired charging and a 80W for wireless charging. It operates on the Xiaomi’s new HyperOS skin, with the latest Android 14 update, while offering a 256GB of inbuilt storage.
The Price factor of the Xiaomi 14, 14 Pro and the 14 Ultra
The global price of Xiaomi 14 starts at EUR.999 (around Rs.89,700). It is available in Black, White, and Jade Green colour options in two variants of 12GB+256GB 12GB+512GB.
As for the Xiaomi 14 Pro, it is not launched globally but only in China with a retail price of Yuan.4999 (around Rs.58,719.75) for the 12GB+256GB variant and available in Black, White and Rock Green.
The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is available for EUR.1499 (around Rs 1.3 lakh) in Black or White in a 16GB+512GB storage variant.
