A unique partnership between BMW and the Swiss gaming platform, AirConsole, has introduced a game-changing feature in BMW’s latest electric vehicle, the 5 Series. For the first time, passengers can enjoy an array of games while the vehicle is charging, though safety remains paramount, with gaming not allowed while the vehicle is in motion.

The newly launched BMW 5 Series leads the charge in showcasing this novel in-car entertainment approach. However, this is just the beginning as BMW plans to roll out the AirConsole app in other vehicles within their lineup. The AirConsole service, previously only available on TVs, has now expanded its reach to the automotive industry, marking a significant milestone.

Playing games in the new BMW 5 Series is straightforward and user-friendly. The players use their smartphone as a controller, which links to the BMW Curved Display, a screen that serves as a TV within the car. To initiate the gaming session, users launch the AirConsole app, scan a QR code to sync their phones to the screen, and dive right into the gaming experience.

A selection of 15 titles is available for the initial launch, featuring games such as Go Kart Go, Golazo, Music Guess, and Overcooked. The library of games will keep growing, keeping the platform fresh and engaging. Although the selection may not satisfy hard-core gamers, it provides enough entertainment for families or casual gamers who enjoy smartphone games.

In a nod to the classic 8-bit era of gaming, BMW is unveiling an electric i5 version of the 5 Series featuring a gaming wrap, replete with large pixels. This celebration of the introduction of in-car gaming is a clear testament to BMW’s commitment to improving the passenger experience while paying tribute to the history of gaming.
