Avatr Technology, a prominent Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has unveiled a significant expansion to its product lineup. The company has introduced a new extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) version of its popular Avatr 07 SUV. This move aligns with the growing consumer preference for electric vehicles that offer longer driving ranges and mitigate the concerns of range anxiety associated with pure electric vehicles.

The Avatr 07 EREV is expected to be powered by a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine that acts as a generator, charging a 39 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This combination allows the vehicle to achieve a remarkable combined CLTC (China light-duty vehicle test cycle) range of 1,152 kilometers, providing drivers with the flexibility to travel long distances without the need for frequent charging.

In pure electric mode, the Avatr 07 EREV can travel up to 245 kilometers on a single charge. The battery pack can be charged from 30% to 80% in just 15 minutes, ensuring minimal downtime during charging stops. The EREV system’s internal combustion engine is highly efficient, boasting a thermal efficiency of 44.39%. This translates to a fuel consumption rate of 3.63 kWh of electricity per liter of gasoline, making it a cost-effective option for long-distance travel.

Performance-wise, the Avatr 07 EREV doesn’t compromise on power. The four-wheel-drive version can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds when fully charged, and even when the battery is depleted, the acceleration time remains impressive at 5.8 seconds. The vehicle has a top speed of 190 km/h, regardless of charge level.

Avatr is not alone in expanding its offerings to include EREVs. Other Chinese EV manufacturers, such as Leapmotor and Neta Auto, have also introduced EREV models to cater to the growing demand for vehicles that combine the benefits of electric propulsion with the flexibility of a traditional gasoline engine. The success of Li Auto in the Chinese market further demonstrates the strong consumer appetite for EREV vehicles.

The Avatr 07 EREV is equipped with a 231 kW electric motor, providing ample power for both city driving and highway cruising. The vehicle offers a comfortable and spacious interior, with advanced features such as a large touchscreen infotainment system, driver-assistance technologies, and a premium audio system. Avatr Technology, a joint venture between Changan Automobile, CATL, and Huawei, has been making significant strides in the Chinese electric vehicle market.
