Telangana government, on Tuesday, launched three artificial intelligence-driven projects to tackle problems relating to road safety and health.
The Information Technology Minister of the South Indian state, K. T. Rama Rao unveiled iRaste (or Intelligent Solutions for Road Safety through Technology and Engineering) Telangana, Bodhyaan car platform, and MicroLabs at the International Institute of Information Technology-Hyderabad, or IIIT-H.
Remarking on AI as the fastest-growing, the minister said that the government plans to train one lakh high school students in basic AI skills while offering foundation courses in the same.
The AI-driven solutions aim to focus on leveraging the technology to solve challenges in key sectors like healthcare and mobility.
Project iRaste Telangana is taken up in collaboration with Intel, Telangana State Road Transport Corporation and INAI at IIIT-H to deploy AI to prevent accidents and improve road safety. The iraste project was launched last year, on a pilot basis, in Maharashtra’s Nagpur city with the aim of reducing road accidents by up to 50% in the city.
Bodhyaan car platform will capture and process real-time vehicle data using multiple sensors, LIDARs, night-vision cameras and RADARs. This platform can be used by researchers, academicians and startups to test vehicle navigation methods or data related to Indian roads and research.
MicroLabs is set up in collaboration with New Delhi’s CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB) and aims to work towards advanced genomic surveillance of communicable diseases. The setup will provide real-time dashboards or heatmaps for health officers covering all districts in Telangana.
