Snapchat+ cost Rs 49 per month in India.
American multinational social media platform Snapchat announced yesterday that the Snapchat+ subscription service has crossed over four million paid subscribers in just a year of its launch. The photo messaging app also revealed two new features for its paid subscription service.
The first of the two features is the “Expressive Chat Messages,” using which users can express themselves based on their mood. With this feature, Snapchat+ subscribers can share messages in bigger, expressive font sizes. The second feature is called “Custom Chat Colors” which lets subscribers select a specific color they want their name to appear in. Both features will be rolled out in the coming weeks.
Snap introduced Snapchat+ this time last year for $3.99/month. Subscribers of Snapchat+ get a collection of exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features, enhancing the platform’s experience. Some of the Snapchat+ exclusive features include the ability to pin a friend as #1 Best Friend, a story rewatch indicator, customization of app icons and theme editor, a Snapchat+ Badge, and more.
The subscription price of Snapchat+ varies in different countries. In India, the company offers a free seven-day trial of Snapchat+, after which the service cost Rs 49 per month and Rs 588 annually.
Once known as Picaboo, Snap lets its users send photos, videos, and messages that disappear after some seconds. Last month, Snapchat achieved a major milestone in India and surpassed 200 million monthly active users in the country. Additionally, more than 120 million Indian users watch content across stories and Spotlight, the company said.
In February, the social media company said it has over 750 million active monthly users. Out of this, 90% of the users are in the age group of 18-24 years. The company plans to move in a direction where it attracts over 1 billion people in the next two to three years.
Elsewhere, the company has been in the news recently after it launched My AI, Snapchat’s new chatbot running the latest version of OpenAI’s GPT technology, in late February. The feature was initially rolled out as an experimental feature for Snapchat+ subscribers and became available to all, including the non-paying users, in April.
The social media app saw an influx of negative reviews and social media complaints since the feature became available to all users. Snapchatters have expressed frustration with the My AI feature, primarily due to its unremovable placement at the top of the chat feed. Users have no control over the chatbot’s position in the app, as it cannot be unpinned, blocked, or removed.
