Tech giant Samsung hosted its bi-annual Galaxy Unpacked event in Seoul, South Korea today. Among the latest announcements, the much-anticipated fifth generation of Galaxy foldables: Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 remained the show stopper. Samsung also unveiled the Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic wearables, and a trio of Galaxy Tab S9 tablets at the second Unpacked event of this year. The latest foldable smartphone comes with a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X main screen display with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. It flaunts a 6.2-inch HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display on the Cover Screen with up to 120 Hz refresh rate. The tablet-sized device serves the purpose of both an exciting game console and a multi-screen, multitasking workhouse.
Users can swiftly and quickly switch between frequently used apps with the smartphone’s improved Taskbar. The enhanced two-handed drag-and-drop feature lets users easily move content between apps and screens. For example, users can touch and hold an image in Samsung Gallery with one finger and use another finger to open the Samsung Notes app to drag and drop the image. Furthermore, the Galaxy Z Fold5 lends a hand in multitasking and users have the liberty to watch video content in full screen and simultaneously chat with friends in a floating pop-up on the side of the screen.
Samsung also unveiled a slimmer and more compact S Pen Fold Edition that fits more comfortably in the pocket. The S Pen Fold Edition measures 4.35mm, compared to 7.4mm for the Galaxy Z Fold4, with support limited to the Main Screen. Just like its predecessors, the Galaxy Z Fold5 does not have a built-in slot for the S Pen, which is sold separately. The Slim S Pen Case is available in a variety of styles and colors and is nearly the same thickness as a regular case for the Fold.
Back to Galaxy Z Fold5, the smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy that provides an immersive gaming experience by enhancing graphics and using AI to enable dynamic gaming and multi-game functionality. Say no to lag and drop in performance, as the device comes with an advanced cooling system that dissipates heat more intelligently. The Galaxy Z Flip5 comes with 12GB Memory with three internal storage options: 1TB, 512GB, and 256GB.
On the camera front, the latest smartphone comes with a 10MP Selfie Camera and the main screen has a hidden 4MP Under Display Camera. The device offers a triple rear camera setup featuring a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 50MP wide-angle camera, 10MP telephoto camera. The latest foldable phone runs Android 13 based on Samsung’s own One UI 5.1.1. It is backed by a 4,400mAh battery, similar to its predecessor, and lets you listen to music for up to 73 hours or watch 21 hours of video playback. The Z Fold5 is IPX8 rated for water resistance.

The Galaxy Z Fold5 is available in Icy Blue, Phantom Black, and Cream color options and two additional Gray and Blue color options exclusive to purchases from Samsung.com. The device is priced at $1,799 with pre-orders starting today. The Galaxy Z Fold5 will go on sale on August 11. However, the device’s Indian price and availability are still under wraps.
