Dubbed OnePlus Open, the foldable phone is rumored to feature a 7.82-inch primary foldable display.
Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus is stepping into the foldable phone market and now the company’s co-founder, who is also the chief product officer at OPPO, Peter Lau confirmed the debut of the device later this year. According to a report by The Verge, the company confirmed that its first-ever foldable smartphone is jointly developed by OnePlus and another BBK Electronics-owned company OPPO.
Both smartphone companies will launch the foldable device under their own branding in different markets. Dubbed OnePlus Open and OPPO N3, the foldable smartphone is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the foldable phone market, offering a blend of innovation, performance, and design that OnePlus is renowned for. The Oppo N3 is rumored to be exclusive to the Chinese market, while the OnePlus Open will be launched globally.
It is noteworthy that OPPO is no stranger to the foldable market and has a foldable smartphone called the OPPO Find N2 Flip. This device is part of the Find N series and offers a unique folding design that transforms from a traditional smartphone into a larger tablet-like display. The OPPO Find N2 Flip was launched in various markets, including India where it is priced at Rs 89,999.
Back to OnePlus’s foldable phone debut, the specific launch details remain undisclosed but Lau’s confirmation of the upcoming device’s development has generated significant excitement among fans and industry observers alike. Unbox Therapy, which published an early unboxing of the OnePlus foldable smartphone, Lau confirmed the launch of the device soon. While the video gives a limited view of OnePlus Open, the device will feature a new hinge system that is lighter yet stronger.
Furthermore, just like previous OnePlus smartphones, the upcoming foldable phone will deliver the same fast and smooth experience. It will also include the brand’s iconic alert slider. The company has no plans to launch a flip-style foldable currently and will only focus on large-screen foldable smartphones.
