An engineer, who found solace in designing and racing ATVs and go-karts, Afzal made the natural move to automotive journalism. His enthusiasm for tech saw him take up reviewing consumer gadgets and soon enough he became the founding editor of Unboxed Magazine. Afzal loves slow travel (something the fast-paced nature of his job tries hard to steer him away from) and is often seen trying to eke out some time for a leisurely stroll through some of the amazing places he visits. He likes to believe that even though he is a tech and automotive connoisseur, he can step back enough from the products he reviews to provide much-needed context. He has shied away from being on camera for most of his career, but is now slowly but certainly spending more time in front of one, nudged by his extremely photogenic cat, Bailey.

The Nothing Phone 2a was launched in India on Tuesday, March 5. This device, marking the third smartphone launch from the UK-based brand, is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro SoC and boasts an AMOLED display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Additionally, it features a pair of 50-megapixel cameras on its back and comes with an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance. The Nothing Phone 2a also introduces an updated Glyph Interface, offering users new lighting patterns and functionalities.

Priced at Rs. 23,999 for the base model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, the Nothing Phone 2a also offers configurations of 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 256GB, priced at Rs. 25,999 and Rs. 27,999, respectively. Available in both White and Black, the smartphone will be available for purchase on Flipkart from March 12. A special introductory offer on Flipkart sets the starting price at just Rs. 19,999 for one day only, alongside a Rs. 2,000 cashback for HDFC bank card purchases, an additional exchange discount of Rs. 2,000, and no-cost EMI options available for up to nine months.

Building on Nothing’s design philosophy, the Phone 2a follows the footsteps of the Phone 1 and Phone 2. Instead of the wireless charging coil forming the basis of the back design, the NFC serves as the basis, with the rest of the transparent back design and also the Glyph interface built around it. As a result, the cameras are also positioned much lower on the phone. As is typical with Nothing devices, the Phone 2a features rounded corners and a polycarbonate build. The phone is available with three color options.

Running on Nothing OS 2.5 based on Android 14, the Nothing Phone 2a promises three years of Android updates and four years of security patches. The device features a 6.7-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, and supports HDR10+ with a peak brightness of 1,300 nits.

The camera setup includes a main and ultra-wide 50-megapixel sensors, with the main camera supporting optical and electronic image stabilization. A 32-megapixel front camera handles selfies and video calls. The Nothing Phone 2a supports up to 256GB of storage, with connectivity options including 5G, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.3. It also features an in-display fingerprint sensor, IP54-rated durability, and dual stereo speakers for enhanced audio.

A significant battery capacity of 5,000mAh supports 45W fast charging, claiming to offer up to two days of usage on a single charge and the ability to charge to 50% in just 23 minutes. The Nothing Phone 2a’s Glyph Interface not only provides unique lighting effects but also offers customizable notifications in a Nothing-tweaked Android UI.
