Nothing Phone (2) will feature a 6.7-inch screen and will come with a 4,700mAh battery.
London-based consumer electronics maker Nothing revealed the display size and some other features of Phone (2) on Wednesday. Nothing’s founder and chief executive officer Carl Pei has previously confirmed that the company’s second smartphone will be launched in July.
In a Twitter thread on Wednesday, Nothing said that the display of Phone (2) will be 0.15-inch bigger than that of its predecessor Nothing Phone (1). Meaning, Phone (2) will feature a 6.7-inch screen, an upgrade from the company’s first-ever 6.55-inch smartphone Nothing Phone (1) launched in July last year.
Furthermore, the company said that the latest smartphone will come with a battery that would be 200mAh bigger than the first-generation Nothing smartphone. This means Phone (2) will come with a 4,700mAh battery, a slight upgrade from the 4,500mAh battery of the Phone (1) but falling slightly short of the industry norm of 5,000mAh.
Calling it a “significant achievement,” Nothing says that the changes would give an “overall boost in performance” and maintain a “carbon footprint of 53.45kg, over 5 kg lower than Phone (1).” As a part of its part of the company’s commitment to minimizing waste and promoting responsible sourcing, Nothing says it has made the unboxing of Phone (2) an entirely plastic-free experience.
“Phone (2) has 3x more recycled or bio-based parts vs Phone (1). 100% recycled tin on 9 circuit boards, 100% recycled copper foil on the main circuit board & over 90% recycled steel on all 28 steel stamping parts. With 80% of plastic parts being sustainably sourced,” the company said while talking about the smartphone’s materials. Nothing added that Phone (2)’s mid-frame uses 100% recycled aluminium made with 100% renewable energy, while its final assembly plants are powered 100% by renewable energy.
Talking about other specifications, in March, a Qualcomm executive accidentally revealed that the handset will be equipped with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. Although slightly dated, this powerful processor is expected to offer an 80 percent performance boost over its predecessor, the Snapdragon 778G Plus-equipped Phone (1).
Moreover, leaks suggest that the device could feature an AMOLED panel with a 120Hz maximum refresh rate. In addition, the device is likely to boast a 50MP primary camera with optical image stabilization and two additional sensors. An intriguing detail about the Phone (2) is the inclusion of an 18-bit Image Signal Processor (ISP), capable of storing nearly 4,000 times more camera data than its predecessor. This indicates that the Phone (2)’s camera system will possess advanced capabilities, such as shooting 4K videos at 60 frames per second and capturing Raw HDR images.
Nothing Phone (2) is also expected to come in a 12GB RAM variant with 256GB of internal storage. The company’s website underscores that the phone could come in a white color variant, while the Tweet by the company shows a flashing red LED light at the back.
There are speculations that India could be among the first countries to receive the Phone (2). In April, tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore tweeted that “Nothing Phone (2) with model number “AIN065” has cleared India’s BIS certification. Expect it to launch soon in India.” Previously the startup headed by former OnePlus Co-Founder Carl Pei confirmed that Nothing Phone (2) will also make its way to the United States.
Meanwhile, Nothing’s first-ever handset has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset, and a full HD+ display. The device supports 33W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging support. It comes in two color variants: black and white. The 8 GB RAM with 128 GB storage costs Rs 28,999 on Flipkart.
