Instagram Map can be accessed by tapping location tags in IG Feed and Stories, or by searching a city and hashtags in Explore.
Instagram, a social networking service owned by Meta Platforms, has recently announced the launch of a new Map feature that will help users to navigate through famous locations and businesses.
“We’re introducing a new searchable map on IG today,” Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder and chief executive officer of Meta, wrote in an Instagram story on Wednesday. “You can now discover popular local businesses near you and filter by categories.”
The video and photo-sharing platform also tweeted about the new feature and said that the Map can be accessed by tapping location tags in IG Feed and Stories, or by searching a city and hashtags in Explore.
Instagram is among the most popular platforms across the globe today and the introduction of the Map feature will help users discover famous locations, which they can also filter by specific categories such as restaurants, cafes, beauty salons, or other types of places. Users can also save these locations and check them out later.
Apart from this, IG Map can also help the promotion of businesses, especially the small ones, to a great extent. According to reports, 96 percent of respondents, who participated in a Meta-commissioned online survey, said that they discover brands and products online and 83 percent of these respondents said that they typically discover them on a Meta-backed platform.
About a year ago, this navigation feature was launched in Japan but now it is being rolled out globally. The company has also been testing this feature in some countries like New Zealand and Australia.
Going ahead, given how many features Meta has been sharing between its various platforms, it would not be surprising if a similar Map feature shows up in the American tech giant’s other apps in the future!
