HMD, (Human Mobile Devices) the company behind Nokia phones, unveiled the much awaited HMD Skyline, a smartphone with a body similar to that of a Nokia N9 and with a strong focus on self-repairability, high-resolution camera and clean Android experienc with some new software tweaks from HMD. Here’s a deeper dive into what this device brings to the table. The company had teased a slew of smartphones during its stunt at MWC 2024.
HMD Skyline Specs
The HMD Skyline features a 6.55 inch FHD+ pOLED display coupled with a 144Hz refresh rate. But the main highlight here is the self-repairability. HMD has partnered with iFixit to offer readily available replacement parts and guides, allowing users to fix cracked screens, replace batteries, and more, at home, by themselves.
In terms of imaging, the Skyline features a triple-camera setup that is headlined by one 108MP sensor with OIS, accompanied by a 50MP telephoto lens with 4x zoom and a 13MP ultrawide sensor. On the front the device features a 50MP front camera.
Powering the Skyline is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset, offering reliable performance for everyday tasks and some gaming. It comes with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of expandable storage. The device also features a 4600mAh battery with with 33W wired charging and 15W wireless charging capabilities. It also features a 5W reverse wireless support too.
The Skyline runs on the latest Android 14 with HMD’s custom “Balance Interface” designed to promote well-being. This interface includes a “Detox Mode” that helps users disconnect from social media and other distractions.
Additionally the device features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for secure unlocking and comes with a commitment of 3 years of security updates. It’s built with a durable frame made from 100% recycled aluminum and is backed by an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance.
Colours, price and Availability
The HMD Skyline is available in two colours, Neon Pink and Twisted black despite the Nokia Lumia-like yellow being leaked couple of weeks prior to the launch. The device is priced at EUR 399 (Rs. 36,493) for the 8GB+128GB variant and EUR 499 (Rs. 45,614) for the 12GB+256GB variant. The device is available globally but HMD is yet to confirm if it will launch the Skyline in India anytime soon.
