Google is set to unveil its much-anticipated Pixel 9 Pro Fold alongside the Pixel 9 Pro on August 14. This marks the first time a Google foldable device will be available in India.
The tech giant has teased the design of both devices that will be unveiled on August 13 and a day after in the country. The Pixel 9 Pro series is expected to feature a refreshed design, with a noticeable shift in the camera layout. Unlike its predecessor, the Pixel 8, which featured a horizontally stretched camera island, the Pixel 9 Pro adopts a pill-shaped camera module.
Meanwhile, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold steals the spotlight as Google’s second foldable smartphone and first to be launched in India. As per the teaser, the foldable device features a dual-pill camera setup on a rectangular island. A report by The Indian Express also suggested that Google has likely relocated the front-facing camera on the inner display, positioning it to the left for improved usability compared to its predecessor.
Under the hood, rumors suggest that both models will be powered by the Tensor G4 chipset, promising significant performance upgrades over previous iterations. The Indian Express, citing a report by the French publication Dealabs, further noted that the pricing for the European market would start from approximately €1,099 (around Rs 1,00,000) for the Pixel 9 Pro and €1,899 (around Rs 1,72,900) for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. However, these prices may vary in different regions.
While details are scarce, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s debut in India marks a significant step for Google in the foldable smartphone segment, directly pitting it against tech giants like Samsung, Vivo, Xiaomi, etc. At its hardware event, Google is also expected to showcase the Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds Pro 2, as well as provide more details about the integration of Gemini AI into its devices.
