Google has finally given us an official glimpse of the much-awaited Pixel Fold, the company’s first foldable smartphone, set to be unveiled on May 10 during the Google I/O event. The official teaser, released on May 4, provides an exciting look at the device, with the tagline “May the Fold be with you.” The short clip confirms several of the features that were previously leaked, including the triple camera setup and the periscope lens.
The Pixel Fold’s design is reminiscent of other Pixel phones, featuring the trademark camera visor on the exterior. As seen in the teaser, the device has a sleek design and appears to have a creaseless display when opened. The rear camera setup is housed in a large bar, similar to other Pixel smartphones. The device will come with two selfie cameras – one on the outer and one on the inner. The inner selfie camera is placed on the right side.
Leaked specifications suggest that the Pixel Fold will have a robust hinge, a 5.80-inch secondary screen when folded, and a 7.60-inch primary screen when opened. However, the bezels on the primary display seem to be significantly thick. Powered by Google’s Tensor G2 chipset, the Pixel Fold will reportedly offer up to 12GB of RAM and feature a 120Hz Quad HD+ inner display. The outer display is expected to be a 5.8-inch Full HD+ OLED screen.
The triple camera setup at the back will likely include a 48MP primary camera, a 10.8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10.8MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. The device’s pricing remains a mystery, but it is expected to carry a hefty premium. A CNBC report claims the price will fall in the same range as the Galaxy Z Fold4, which starts at Rs 1.55 lakh in India.
Google’s first foldable phone is expected to weigh 283g and may boast a slightly larger battery than the Galaxy Z Fold4. The Pixel Fold is slated to retail for $1,799 in the US and become available on June 27. However, it remains unclear whether the device will be launched in India, as Google India’s Twitter account has not shared the teaser.
In addition to the Pixel Fold, Google is set to launch the Pixel 7a smartphone in India on May 11. The company shared a teaser for the device on Flipkart, confirming the upcoming release.
Google I/O, the search giant’s annual developer conference, seems to have been fully hijacked by the company’s hardware-making arm this year. Rumors suggest that Google will use the occasion to announce a host of new devices, including the Pixel Fold, the Pixel Tablet, and the Pixel 7a. With the official teaser now released, anticipation for the Pixel Fold’s full unveiling on May 10 is at an all-time high.
