    DCW issued notices to Flipkart, Amazon for selling acid online

    Flipkart has issued an official statement condemning the Delhi acid attack.

     

    The Delhi Commission for Women has issued notices to e-commerce giants Flipkart and Amazon over the easy availability of acid online. This comes a day after three youths in the city threw acid on a 17-year-old schoolgirl after purchasing it from Flipkart.

     

    “The commission has learnt that acid is easily available on leading online shopping platforms such as Amazon and Flipkart, which is illegal,” according to the notice and as read on Tribune. “The easy availability of acid on online platforms is a matter of grave concern and needs to be addressed urgently.”

     

    The DCW further sought full details of sellers selling acid online and a copy of the license obtained by the platforms for the sale of acid. The Delhi Police has also issued a notice to Flipkart after determining that the acid was procured from its platform.

     

    Flipkart has issued an official statement condemning the attack. “We strongly condemn this unfortunate incident and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and her family,” media reports citing a Flipkart spokesperson noted. The Flipkart marketplace platform closely monitors and delists products that violate expected standards.”

     

    “Strict action is taken against sellers who are found to be engaged in selling products that are illegal, unsafe, and prohibited. The concerned seller has been blacklisted, and we are extending all support to the concerned authorities in their investigation,” it added.
