OpenAI has started to roll out ChatGPT app in the United States.

American artificial intelligence company OpenAI announced on Thursday that it has started rolling out an official application of its popular chatbot ChatGPT for iOS users. The ChatGPT app is free to use, ad-free, and supports voice inputs.

“With the ChatGPT app for iOS, we’re taking another step towards our mission by transforming state-of-the-art research into useful tools that empower people, while continuously making them more accessible,” OpenAI said in a blog.

The AI conversation app syncs your conversation history across devices. This means users can know and access their previous searches on any other interface like the web. The integration of Whisper, OpenAI’s automatic speech recognition system trained on multilingual and multitask supervised data from the web, has enabled enable voice inputs on the ChatGPT app.

Additionally, ChatGPT Plus subscribers on iOS will get exclusive access to GPT-4’s capabilities, early access to features, and faster response times. The company has started the app rollout in the United States and will expand it to more countries in the coming weeks. At the time of writing this article, the ChatGPT app was not available on App Store in India. The company plans to next roll out the app on Android devices soon.

Short for Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer, ChatGPT is a popular AI text generator and has been the center of attention since its launch in November due to its human-like response. OpenAI, the parent of the AI-based text generator, has a “multimillion-dollar investment” by American tech major Microsoft.

Several big players like Google and Baidu gearing up to emulate the success of OpenAI chatbot. However, fake news, plagiarism, biasedness, manipulation, and privacy are some concerns that have led several other authorities across the globe to study and investigate the impact and potential risks that such AI platforms could pose. Meanwhile, the launch of the ChatGPT app on mobile phones could potentially affect and challenge Google’s monopoly in the search engine industry.
