The date of the Apple store opening is still unknown, but reports suggest it might be integrated by the end of this month.
India’s first physical Apple store is set to soon open in the country’s financial capital Mumbai. The American tech major Apple informed about the same on its website as well as released a picture of the banner of its retail store in the city.
“Hello Mumbai. We are getting ready to welcome you aboard our first store in India. And raring to see where your creativity takes you at Apple BKC,” the company said on its website. Meanwhile, the picture of the banner is revealed at an outlet at the Jio World Drive Mall located at Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai.
While the date of the store opening is still unknown, the Apple BKC store seems to be inspired by the famous ‘kaali-peeli’ taxis in the city. Reports have highlighted that the iPhone maker is also planning to open a store in New Delhi at a later date. While Apple BKC will reportedly be spanning 22,000 square feet, the New Delhi store is expected to be around 10,000-12,000 square feet.
In the past, some media organizations reported that Asia’s third-largest economy would get its first Apple store this year. Early this year, the Tim Cook-led company reportedly posted new openings for 12 retail roles at “various locations” including Mumbai and Delhi. The openings include both part-time and full-time positions.
The move comes after a long wait and aligns with the vision of the company’s chief executive officer who said in 2020 that he does not want somebody else to run the brand for them. The first physical Apple Store in the country was previously set to open in 2021 but was pushed to last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Apple is looking to expand its footprint in the country and is also betting on India to become a major iPhone-producing country. In November, reports highlighted that Foxconn is planning to expand its workforce four times in the next two years at the company’s plant in Tamil Nadu.
