OnePlus is apparently gearing up to unveil the much-anticipated OnePlus Watch 2 at the forthcoming Mobile World Congress 2024 (MWC 2024) in Barcelona. The OnePlus Watch 2 is expected to operate on Wear OS, a departure from the original OnePlus Watch’s simpler OS, promising several improvements in terms of functionality but bringing into question the OnePlus Watch 2’s ability to deliver week-long battery life like the original OnePlus Watch.

The buzz around the OnePlus Watch 2 was ignited by a post from AllAboutSamsung’s Max Jambor (@MaxJmb), originally shared on X (previously known as Twitter). According to Jambor, the launch is slated to take place during MWC 2024 scheduled from February 26 to February 29. Interestingly, this revelation might shed light on OnePlus’s strategy of not disclosing any details about the smartwatch in the lead-up to their global OnePlus 12 launch event. Set for January 23, this event is already creating buzz with the expected debut of three major products: the flagship OnePlus 12, the OnePlus 12R, and the OnePlus Buds 3 TWS earphones.
The original OnePlus Watch, launched in April 2021 with a price tag of Rs. 14,999, was notable for its 1.39-inch AMOLED display, 5ATM water resistance, and IP68 dust and water resistance rating. However, it lacked Wear OS, unlike other watches from brands like Oppo, Samsung and Google.
The upcoming OnePlus Watch 2, as per Jambor’s insights, is set to bridge this gap by incorporating Wear OS. The specific version, whether it be Wear OS 3 or the more advanced Wear OS 4 with its enhanced features, remains a subject of speculation.
Leaked renders of the OnePlus Watch 2, which surfaced last November, have provided a glimpse into what might be in store. The device is expected to feature a 1.43-inch AMOLED screen and run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chip. Its appearance on the BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) website under the model number OPWWE231 also hints at an Indian launch.
