    After Tecno, Huawei releases tri-fold model with Huawei Mate XT Ultimate: Here’s everything you need to know

    Shortly after Tecno announced the Tecno Phantom Ultimate 2, Huawei seems to have jumped on the bandwagon by launching its very first tri-fold smartphone. on September 10th 2024, the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate. Set for release on September 20, Huawei seems to be pushing the boundaries of foldable phone technology offering users a unique blend of versatility, power, and innovation. Here’s everything that the device brings to the table.

    Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate is the epitome of engineering ingenuity with its triple-folding design. When fully unfolded, the device measures 156.7 x 219 x 3.6-4.8 mm, offering a thin, expansive experience for tablet-like functionality. When folded into its most compact form, the phone’s dimensions shrink to 156.7 x 73.5 x 12.8 mm, making it easy to carry in one hand. Despite the complex folding mechanism, the device maintains a weight of 298 grams, a notable achievement given its size and capabilities.

    One of the standout features of the Mate XT Ultimate is its impressive tri-foldable LTPO OLED display. When fully unfolded, the main display measures 10.2 inches, delivering a nearly tablet-sized viewing experience with a 91.9% screen-to-body ratio. In its folded state, the device offers two display modes: a cover display and a dual-display setup. The cover display, which represents one-third of the main screen, measures 6.4 inches with a resolution of 1008 x 2232 pixels. The dual-display setup utilizes two-thirds of the main screen, creating a 7.9 inch display with a resolution of 2048 x 2232 pixels. All displays support a 120Hz refresh rate.

    The Mate XT Ultimate is powered by Huawei’s latest Kirin 9010 chipset, built on a 7nm process. Its octa-core CPU features a combination of Taishan and Cortex-A510 cores, offering a blend of performance and efficiency. The 2.3 GHz Taishan Big cores handle heavy tasks, while the 1.55 GHz Cortex-A510 cores manage power-efficient operations. The Maleoon 910 GPU ensures smooth graphics performance, whether for gaming, multimedia, or multitasking.

    Running on HarmonyOS 4.2, the Mate XT Ultimate provides a seamless user experience, optimized for foldable devices, especially in China where the OS is primarily supported. The phone is equipped with dual SIM support, allowing users to switch between two carriers effortlessly. While it may not have Google services, Huawei’s growing ecosystem offers alternatives for those who live in HarmonyOS-supported regions.

    Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate is no slouch when it comes to storage, offering three options: 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB, all paired with 16GB of RAM. Notably, there’s no option for expandable memory, which is becoming increasingly common among premium smartphones.

    In terms of imaging, the Mate XT Ultimate seems to continue Huawei’s tradition. The phone features a triple-camera system headlined by a 50 MP wide-angle lens with an adjustable aperture ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0, paired with PDAF and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for clear, detailed shots in a variety of lighting conditions.

    For zoom lovers, there’s a 12 MP periscope telephoto lens with 5.5x optical zoom. The camera setup is rounded out by a 12 MP ultrawide lens with a 120-degree field of view. This camera system also supports 4K video recording with gyro-EIS and OIS stabilization. On the front, the Mate XT Ultimate sports an 8 MP selfie camera with HDR support, capable of recording 4K and 1080p video.

    Powering the Mate XT Ultimate is a 5600 mAh silicon-carbon battery. Despite its foldable form factor, the company aims to offer excellent endurance, ensuring all-day usage on a single charge. The device supports 66W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 7.5W reverse wireless charging for devices like earbuds or smartwatches. Additionally, it supports 5W reverse wired charging, providing users with a range of options to keep their phone and accessories powered up.

    The Mate XT Ultimate is packed with the latest connectivity features. It supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC with NFC-SIM and HCE, and an infrared port, allowing users to control various appliances. The device also comes with advanced positioning systems, including GPS, GLONASS, BDS, Galileo, QZSS, and NavIC, ensuring precise navigation worldwide. One standout feature is the integration of BDS satellite calling and messaging, ensuring connectivity even in remote areas.

    Price colours and availability

    The Huawei Mate XT Ultimate is priced at ¥19999 (Rs. 2,35,889) for the 16GB+256GB variant, ¥21999 (Rs.2,59,479) for the 16GB+512GB variant and finally, ¥23,999 (Rs. 2,83,069) for the 16GB+1TB variant. The phone is currently live on sale in China however, an Indian launch for the same remains undisclosed by Huawei.
