Chinese consumer tech giant Xiaomi made a grand entry into the electric vehicle market with the launch of its first car model, the Xiaomi SU7, in December last year. Now the company is set to begin delivering the first batch of the Speed Ultra 7 (SU7) sedan as soon as this month, Reuters reported, citing a a Weibo post by Xiaomi.

A launch event, where the new EV’s sticker tag is also expected to be made public, is set for March 28. Additionally, 59 of Xiaomi’s stores in 29 cities in China will take orders for the new EV. A unit of state-owned BAIC Group will produce Xiaomi’s cars in a factory in Beijing with an annual capacity of 200,000 vehicles. Xiaomi has has pledged to invest $10 billion in autos over a decade.

At the EV’s December unveiling, Xiaomi’s chief executive officer Lei Jun emphasized SU7’s superior acceleration capabilities, surpassing benchmarks set by Porsche’s Taycan and Tesla’s Model S. The SU7 is ingeniously integrated with Xiaomi’s range of smartphones and smart home devices, ensuring a seamless user experience. Additionally, the vehicle boasts compatibility with Apple products like the iPhone, iPad, CarPlay, and AirPlay. According to a report by CNBC, the SU7 has been listed as a tax-exempt new energy vehicle by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, indicating its purely electric nature with an impressive driving range of 628 to 800 kilometers (390 to 500 miles).

At this year’s MWC, Xiaomi showcased the 5-seater, high-performance SU7 EV in the Aqua Blue color variant, leaving auto enthusiasts in awe of its stunning design, promising exceptional speed and range. When it comes to performance, the SU7 boasts a 73.6 kWh battery and a maximum motor speed of 27,200 rpm, capable of unleashing 425kW of power and a peak torque of 635Nm. This sleek and sporty sedan boasts a lightning-fast acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 5.3 seconds.
