Hyundai has launched the refreshed Creta, with prices starting at Rs 11 lakh for the entry-level petrol-manual variant, stretching up to Rs 20 lakh for the top-spec diesel and turbo-petrol automatics. Note that these prices are introductory. The 2024 Creta facelift, boasting five engine and gearbox configurations, presents a staggering 19 variants to choose from.
There’s a slight hike in the price tags compared to the previous model. The top-tier Creta now demands Rs 80,000 more than its predecessor. Despite these adjustments, the Creta facelift remains competitively priced within its segment.
The facelift is far from superficial, featuring a completely redesigned front and rear. The larger grille, adorned with intricate parametric details as termed by Hyundai, is paired with a new lighting arrangement. The split headlamps, integrating LED Daytime Running Lamps, sequential indicators, and a light bar, redefine the vehicle’s front façade, and make it a lot less polarising. Similarly at the rear, there are redesigned lighting elements with a unique signature. There aren’t many changes to the sides, but there has been a 30mm increase to the length of the SUV.
The interior of the Creta also witnesses substantial upgrades. Central to the dashboard is the new 10.25-inch touchscreen, integrated with a digital driver display borrowed from the Alcazar. Both these screens are part of a new curved display that is now the centrepiece of the dash. The redesigned center console, featuring controls for the dual-zone climate control system, and the introduction of lighter colors with copper accents mark significant interior improvements. Additionally, the inclusion of a number of physical buttons and toggles mark a departure from the norm for modern cars.
In terms of features and safety, the Creta continues to impress. The suite of comfort and convenience features is extensive, including a powered driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, and an advanced onboard air purifier. The tech offerings are equally impressive, with a crisp digital driver’s display, a user-friendly touchscreen supporting multiple languages, and a comprehensive 360-degree camera system. The Creta’s safety credentials are bolstered with a standard six airbags, and higher-end models come equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) Level 2, featuring a suite of 19 functions like auto emergency braking, lane keep and adaptive cruise control.
Mechanically, the significant change in the Creta facelift is the introduction of a new 160PS, 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine, paired exclusively with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, replacing the older 140PS, 1.4-liter turbo-petrol unit. The 115PS, 1.5-liter petrol and diesel engines continue as before, with their respective transmission options.
When positioned against its rivals, the Creta facelift remains competitive in the midsize SUV segment, balancing pricing and features adeptly to stay relevant and appealing in a fiercely contested market.
