Tata Motors showcased the much-anticipated Tata Curvv in a near-production form at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. Tata’s Curvv is expected to be launched in India later this year and will go up against the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. It is expected to be offered with a range of powertrain options, but will be available as an EV offering first. Later, the Curvv will be available as an ICE. The Curvv was one of many Tata cars that were being showcased, including the Harrier EV, the Altroz Racer and more.
The Tata Curvv, with its distinctive coupe-like roofline and sleek front design, sets itself apart from competitors like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. It features an LED light bar at the front like the ones seen on the Nexon and Punch EV, a grille with piano black elements much like on the facelifted Harrier and Safari, flush door handles (a first for Tata), and 18-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, there’s an attractive LED light bar that runs the whole width of the car and together with the sloping roofline, makes for a striking back. The interior is expected to feature Tata’s infotainment suite with dual 10.25-inch displays, a wireless charger, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera and JBL speakers.
Powertrain options for the Curvv include Tata’s newest 1.2-litre turbo-petrol TGDi engine, offering 125PS and 225Nm, and the 1.5-litre diesel unit from the Nexon producing 115PS and 260Nm. The Curvv EV is expected to feature a battery pack, with more than 500 km of range, making in stand out in what is set to be a crowded segment for EVs with launches from Maruti and Toyota around the corner as well.
The launch of the Tata Curvv is eagerly anticipated by the second half of 2024, with the electric version likely to hit the market first, followed by the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) variants. The Curvv EV is expected to be priced at a reasonable premium over the Nexon EV, while the petrol and diesel versions could start from around the Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom) mark introducing Tata to the mid-range SUV battle. Tata is looking to achieve an annual sales target of approximately 48,000 units for the midsize SUV, with 12,000 coming from the EV.
