German automaker Opel on 11th June, unveiled its most powerful production vehicle to date—the Opel Grandland AWD. Quietly launched, this new flagship is a full-electric SUV that the company claims to supposedly outpace the sport-focused GSe models. Delivering a surprising 325 horsepower (239 kW) and 509 Nm of torque through a dual-motor, featuring an all-wheel-drive setup allowing this E-SUV propels from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds.

The powertrain features a 213 hp electric motor at the front and a 112 hp motor at the rear, giving it a balanced and dynamic performance. Drivers can select from four distinct driving modes—Eco, Normal, Sport, and AWD—each offering specific configurations for power delivery, steering feel, and efficiency. To ensure the driving experience matches the performance figures, Opel has equipped the Grandland Electric AWD with frequency selective damping, which adapts in real-time to road conditions and driving style. Combined with unique spring and anti-roll bar tuning, recalibrated steering, and stability control, the vehicle offers a confident yet comfortable ride both in city traffic and on twisting highways.

Range and charging remain central concerns for EV buyers, and Opel has addressed both with a 73 kWh battery pack capable of delivering up to 501 km on a single charge, based on the WLTP cycle. The battery is mounted low in the chassis to improve stability, and fast charging is supported—allowing a 20 to 80 percent top-up in under 30 minutes. These specs put the Opel Grandland AWD in a strong position against competitors in the increasingly crowded electric SUV segment.

Visually, Opel has opted for a subtle yet athletic aesthetic, as the Opel Grandland Electric AWD features sportier front and rear bumpers with aerodynamic inserts, carbon-style detailing, and sleek 20-inch bi-colour alloy wheels. These changes not only enhance its stance but also contribute to a best-in-range drag coefficient of 0.278 Cd, improving efficiency and range. The signature Opel 3D Vizor grille, illuminated Blitz logo using Edge Light Technology, and Intelli-Lux HD headlamps—boasting over 50,000 light elements—underscore the model’s modern electric identity. At the rear, chrome lettering has been replaced by a centrally embossed nameplate, in line with Opel’s environmentally conscious Greenovation philosophy.

What’s surprising, however, is what the Grandland Electric AWD isn’t called. Despite being the most powerful model Opel has ever built, the vehicle does not wear the GSe (Grand Sport Electric) badge—a label used for its previous plug-in hybrid Grandland GSe with less power. Opel’s decision to omit this performance branding raises questions, particularly since the new model has the credentials to back it up.

Opel CEO Florian Huettl emphasized the importance of choice and versatility in today’s market, noting that the Opel Grandland Electric AWD complements the existing battery-electric, plug-in hybrid, and 48-volt mild hybrid variants already available. The new model’s all-wheel drive system is tailored for everyday use as well as harsh weather or rough roads, ensuring a balance of efficiency, control, and driving excitement.

While many electric vehicles promise sustainability and comfort, the Opel Grandland Electric AWD seems to make no compromises on performance. With its blend of speed, range, efficiency, and refinement, Opel has indeed set a new benchmark for the brand’s electrified future.
