Mazda is set to electrify its lineup with the global launch of the Mazda EZ-6 this fall. Initially unveiled for the Chinese market in April, the EZ-6 is a joint venture with Chongqing Changan Automobile, marking a significant step in Mazda’s electrification strategy.
Positioned as a replacement for the iconic Mazda 6, the EZ-6 promises to maintain the brand’s renowned “Jinba-ittai” driving experience while embracing electric power. Mazda claims the vehicle has undergone rigorous testing at the Chongqing Automobile Testing Grounds, where European R&D experts fine-tuned its dynamic performance.

The EZ-6 boasts a modern interior featuring a 14.6-inch central infotainment screen and an additional instrument cluster display. Advanced driver assistance systems include Level 2.5 autonomy, supported by four HD panoramic cameras, twelve ultrasonic radars, and a powerful Qualcomm SA8155P chip. The vehicle also offers convenient features like autonomous parking and remote parking control.

While Mazda has yet to disclose specific battery and motor details, it’s anticipated that the EZ-6 will share powertrains with the China-market SL03. This suggests both battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) options will be available. The BEV is claimed to offer a 600km range (CLTC), while the PHEV boasts an impressive 1,000km combined range. It’s important to note that these figures are based on optimistic testing standards, and real-world range, especially under EPA conditions, is likely to be lower.

Despite Mazda’s assertion of a “truly global” model, the EZ-6’s U.S. availability remains unclear. The company’s previous attempt with the MX-30 EV resulted in disappointing sales, leading to its discontinuation in the American market.
