Chinese automaker BYD (Build Your Dreams) launched the BYD Seagull compact EV hatchback in Colombia on April 20, 2024. This EV hatchback, designed for city driving, features a striking design and is packed with features. Offered in three variants, the BYD Seagull promises an exciting option for Indian EV buyers once the release gets official confirmation. That being said, here’s a closer look at what the Seagull brings to the table.
BYD Seagull features
The Seagull will be available in three variants: Dynamic Edition, Freedom Edition, and Flying Edition. All variants share a driving range of 305km with the Dynamic and Freedom Editions, while the Flying Edition boasts an extended range of 405km. This caters to drivers with varying needs, whether it’s daily commuting or occasional longer trips. Each variant packs a punch with a 55kW (75Ps) electric motor delivering 135 Nm of torque. The top speed is capped at 130 km/h, making it perfect for city driving and navigating traffic.
The hatchback features a comprehensive airbag system, including main and co-pilot airbags, side airbags (on Flying Edition only), and side curtain airbags. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Traction Control System (TCS), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and other safety features come standard across all variants.
On the inside, the Seagull gets a modern interior design that consists of a 10.1-inch central control screen, an instrument cluster display, and a multi-function steering wheel. It also offers features like phone wireless charging (on Flying Edition only), a sunroof (not mentioned in the specifications provided), and a PM2.5 air filter for cleaner cabin air. Passenger comfort is ensured with features like automatic climate control, electric windows with anti-pinch function, and remote keyless entry. The Seagull also comes with a rearview camera, cruise control, and hill start assist for added convenience.
Expected Pricing and Colors
Overall, the BYD Seagull appears to be a well-equipped electric hatchback that could be launched by the Chinese automaker, targeting the Indian market and adding to its current EV lineup in the country. With its multiple variants and emphasis on driver and passenger comfort, the Seagull has the potential to be a strong contender in India’s growing electric vehicle segment. Once released, the hatchback will be available in four colours and is expected to be priced around the Rs. 10 lakh price range.
