Nothing Phone (2) is expected to be more than 30% costlier than its predecessor.
London-based consumer electronics maker Nothing on Tuesday confirmed the much-awaited release date of Phone (2). The company’s second smartphone and successor of Nothing Phone (1) will be unveiled on July 11 at 16:00 BST (or 8:30 pm IST) on nothing.tech, the startup headed by former OnePlus Co-Founder Carl Pei said in a Tweet.
The official release date was accompanied by a short teaser showing Nothing’s Glyph Interface, which is similar to that of the company’s first-generation smartphone. Nothing introduced the Glyph Interface in Phone (1) and the interface display light patterns alert about incoming calls, notifications, charging status, and other information to users. We could expect Nothing Phone (2) to also have a similar appearance with Glyph Interface as Phone (1).
Last month, Nothing revealed the display size and some other features of the Phone (2). The latest device will be 0.15-inch bigger than that of its predecessor Nothing Phone (1). Meaning, Phone (2) will feature a 6.7-inch screen, an upgrade from the company’s first-ever 6.55-inch smartphone Nothing Phone (1) launched in July last year. Some reports have also previously pointed out that the latest Nothing smartphone could have rounder sides to the metal frame as well as curved edges along the display and the back glass for better comfort and a seamless experience.
Talking about battery, the company said that the latest smartphone will come with a battery that would be 200mAh bigger than the first Nothing smartphone. This means Phone (2) will come with a 4,700mAh battery, a slight upgrade from the 4,500mAh battery of the Phone (1) but falling slightly short of the industry norm of 5,000mAh. In addition, as a part of its sustainability measures, Nothing has made the unboxing of Phone (2) an entirely plastic-free experience.
Nothing Phone (2) is also confirmed to be equipped with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. Although slightly dated, this powerful processor is expected to offer an 80 percent performance boost over its predecessor, the Snapdragon 778G Plus-equipped Phone (1). Other improvements in the latest handset could include an AMOLED panel with a 120Hz maximum refresh rate, an advanced camera system, and enhanced LED flash and wireless charging lights.
Previously, the startup had confirmed that Nothing Phone (2) will also make its way to the United States for the first time along with other countries where Phone (1) was available. Nothing Phone (2) is also reported to see a price hike of more than 30% or beyond. The base 8GB/128GB variant of Phone (1) was launched for Rs 32,999, while the top 12GB/256GB model was launched at Rs 38,999. Hence, we could expect the base variant of Phone (2) to cost between Rs 40,000 to Rs 45,000.
