South Korean multinational consumer tech giant Samsung today confirmed that it will host the next Galaxy Unpacked event in its home country for the first time ever. The semi-annual event Samsung Galaxy Unpacked will take place in Seol, South Korea sometime in late July.

Galaxy Unpacked is an event organized by Samsung to unveil and showcase the company’s latest products and innovations including smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and other consumer electronics. While Samsung is tight-lipped about what to expect at this Galaxy Unpacked event, it is highly anticipated that the company will announce the long-rumored, next-generation of foldable smartphones Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. Apart from the smartphones, Samsung is also expected to unveil Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Tab S9 series.

“The foldable category embodies Samsung’s philosophy of delivering breakthrough innovation that pushes boundaries to reshape the future of mobile experiences,” TM Roh, Samsung’s President and Head of Mobile Experience Business, said. “Hosting Unpacked in Seoul holds great significance both as it is a city that has become an emerging epicenter of innovation and culture as well as the foldable category.”

While the event date is still under wraps, rumors suggest that the second Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event this year could take place on July 26. This is earlier than when the tech company launched the predecessor of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 in August last year. Then, Samsung also unveiled Galaxy Watch 5 and Buds 2 Pro earbuds.

Talking about the next-gen foldable smartphone lineup, Samsung is rumored to bring an ‘always-on display’ feature, similar to that in high-end iPhone 14 models, to Galaxy Z Flip 5 smartphone series. The Z Flip 5 is further rumored to come in three storage options: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB, run on One UI 5.1.1 based on Android 13, and will likely be powered by a custom Qualcomm Snapdragon for Galaxy SoC, coupled with at least 8GB of RAM. The smartphone is also speculated to feature a dual rear camera unit with a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 12-megapixel ultra wide-angle shooter. It could come in beige, gray, light green, and light pink color options.

Meanwhile, in its Galaxy Unpacked event in February, Samsung announced the launch of the Galaxy S23 smartphone series – the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the Galaxy S23+, and the Galaxy S23. All three models are powered by a custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and come with improved camera technology, sleek design, and better battery life. Apart from the S23 lineup, Samsung also unveiled the Galaxy Book3 Ultra, the Galaxy Book3 Pro 360, the Galaxy Book3 360, and the Galaxy Book3 Pro.
