The monthly Amazon Prime subscription has increased by a massive 67%, and the price of the quarterly plan has jumped by around 31%.

American over-the-top streaming platform Amazon Prime has become expensive for Indian users. The company has recently raised the price of its monthly and quarterly subscription plans. However, the price of Amazon Prime, or simply Prime, annual subscription remains unchanged.

Talking about a monthly subscription, Prime will now cost Rs 299 for one month, an increase of Rs 120. Previously, a monthly Prime subscription would cost Rs 179. Amazon Prime subscription for three months now costs Rs 599. This is an increase of Rs 140 from the earlier price of Rs 459. In other words, the monthly Prime subscription has increased by a massive 67%, and the price of the quarterly plan has jumped by around 31%. Amazon Prime annual and Prime Lite subscription remains unchanged at Rs 1,499 and Rs 999.

Amazon had previously raised the cost of Prime membership in December 2021 to Rs 179, Rs 459, and Rs 1,499 respectively for a month, a quarter, and a year in the country. Prior to this, Prime membership would cost Rs 129, Rs 329, and Rs 999 respectively for a month, a quarter, and a year in India.

Meanwhile, after the latest price hike, the benefits of Prime membership remain the same. Prime members are eligible for free same/one/two-day delivery, unlimited and ad-free access to Amazon Music, Prime Reading, and Prime Video, early and exclusive access to some deals on Amazon.in, and more.

A cheaper, ad-supported version of Prime is also available and is called Amazon Prime Lite. It comes with reduced benefits like free two-day delivery. Other major benefits like unlimited access to Amazon Prime Video, early and exclusive access to lightening deals on its e-commerce platform, among others, remain the same. Unlike Amazon Prime which offers monthly/quarterly/annual plans, Prime Lite is available only for annual subscription.

Elsewhere, last year, the OTT giant Netflix also introduced its ad-supported subscription plan for the United States, Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, and the United Kingdom for $ 6.99 whereas in Canada for $5.99. However, it has not yet introduced its ads tier plan in India.
